Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko has reportedly made up his mind to join Manchester United, despite Newcastle United\’s higher bid and guaranteed Champions League football.
The 22-year-old RB Leipzig forward was at the center of a heated transfer race between the two Premier League giants, with both clubs submitting substantial offers. Newcastle initially offered €75 million plus €5 million in add-ons, later increasing it to a flat €80 million. Manchester United responded with a competitive bid of €75 million plus €10 million in add-ons.
Although no final agreement has been reached between Manchester United and RB Leipzig, reports indicate that all parties now acknowledge Sesko\’s preference for the Red Devils, and talks are progressing toward meeting Leipzig’s valuation.
Sesko, who netted 21 goals across all competitions last season, has racked up 39 goals and eight assists in 87 appearances since joining Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023. His potential arrival at Old Trafford could strengthen United’s front line significantly as they look to bounce back from a mixed 2024/25 campaign.
Newcastle’s failure to land Sesko may also affect Liverpool’s pursuit of their top target, Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker, currently at Newcastle, has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, but losing Sesko might force the Magpies to block any exit for Isak.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have already been active in the transfer window, securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. Adding Sesko would complete a strong attacking revamp for Erik ten Hag’s side ahead of the new season.
