Chelsea Football Club have officially confirmed the departure of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has joined Everton on a permanent deal.
The transfer was announced on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with both clubs issuing statements on their official websites.
The 26-year-old signs a five-year contract with the Merseyside club, keeping him at Goodison Park until 2030. Dewsbury-Hall becomes Everton’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, and Adam Aznou.
Dewsbury-Hall arrived at Chelsea from Leicester City after a standout 2023/24 season with the Foxes. However, he struggled to cement a starting spot at Stamford Bridge, starting just two Premier League matches. Despite limited league appearances, he made notable contributions in Europe, scoring four goals in the UEFA Conference League and assisting Jadon Sancho’s goal in the final victory over Real Betis in May 2025.
He also featured in the FIFA Club World Cup, netting in the 4-1 semifinal win against Benfica and making a substitute appearance in Chelsea’s 3-0 final triumph over Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, the midfielder’s sale is believed to be part of Chelsea’s urgent effort to comply with UEFA’s financial control regulations. The club was recently penalized for breaching financial fair play (FFP) rules and is now required to maintain a positive transfer balance this summer, especially by offloading players from their recent UEFA Conference League squad.
Failure to meet this condition could prevent Chelsea from registering new signings, such as Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Liam Delap, for the upcoming Champions League campaign, with the UEFA deadline set for September.
Dewsbury-Hall\’s exit, while disappointing for some fans, is seen as a necessary step in the club\’s ongoing financial restructuring and squad management ahead of the 2025/26 season.
