The Federal Ministry of Education has commended the Yobe State Government for its remarkable strides in the delivery of basic education, highlighting its commitment to improving learning outcomes for children across the state.

In a letter personally signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and addressed to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the federal government praised the state’s proactive approach and unwavering dedication to foundational education.

“I write to convey commendation for Your Excellency’s unwavering commitment to advancing the basic education sector in Yobe State,” the minister stated. “Your proactive approach is exemplary and reflects a sustained prioritisation of foundational education as a catalyst for development, geared towards improving educational outcomes for the over 967,301 children of basic education age in Yobe State.”

Dr. Alausa further acknowledged Yobe’s full access to its 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grant, noting it as a testament to the state’s responsiveness and focus on educational development.

The commendation follows Yobe’s recent international recognition, where three girls, Nafisa Abdullah, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Khadija Kashim, emerged world champions at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London. The students competed against over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, bringing pride to the state and the nation.

Responding to the federal commendation, Governor Buni expressed gratitude, describing the recognition as a motivational boost to pursue even higher achievements in the education sector. He also appreciated the contributions of teachers, parents, and other stakeholders for their continued support of the state government’s education policies and programs.
