ID Cabasa celebrates 50th birthday

ID Cabasa

Renowned music producer and industry pioneer, ID Cabasa, is marking a significant personal and professional milestone today as he turns 50 years old.

The celebrated hitmaker shared the joyful news on his Instagram page, posting a cheerful photo of himself alongside the caption: Thankful for a new age, a new day and cheers to another 50!

Born Olumide Ogunlade, ID Cabasa is considered one of the foundational forces behind the rise of Nigeria’s modern music scene. As the founder of the iconic Coded Tunes label, he played a critical role in the discovery and development of top talents, including 9ice, Olamide, Reminisce, Seriki, and Lord of Ajasa.

He is particularly known for producing 9ice’s era-defining hit Gongo Aso and for giving Olamide his first major break, laying the groundwork for what would become one of the biggest careers in African rap. His signature sound, which combines Yoruba musical elements with contemporary beats, helped shape what we now know as Afrobeats.

Before fully diving into music, Cabasa worked in banking after earning degrees in Economics and Management Economics. But in 2003, he made the bold decision to follow his passion for music, and that decision not only transformed his life but also elevated Nigeria’s global music standing.

Today, ID Cabasa is more than a producer; he is a mentor, a teacher, and a voice of integrity within the entertainment industry. Over the years, he has championed creative authenticity, invested in young talents, and stayed active in important conversations around the growth and ethics of Nigerian music.

As he celebrates this golden jubilee, tributes are pouring in from fans, colleagues, and celebrities who all recognize the role he has played in shaping Nigeria’s sound and stars.
