Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, may be barred from flying on commercial aircrafts within Nigeria following an alleged breach of aviation safety protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to recent reports, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is currently reviewing the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, and may result in the artiste being placed on the national no-fly list, a serious penalty typically reserved for individuals deemed to pose a risk to air travel safety.
The controversy stems from an incident involving a ValueJet flight (VK201) scheduled to depart Abuja for Lagos. A detailed report submitted by the pilot in command, Captain Ranti, stated that Kwam 1 arrived at the aircraft holding a gold flask, which ground personnel requested to inspect in accordance with standard boarding procedures.
However, the Fuji icon allegedly refused to comply, asserting that airport officials had no right to question him. The pilot, in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, exited the cockpit to intervene personally. Despite multiple requests from both airline staff and security officials, Kwam 1 was said to have refused to vacate the aircraft’s vicinity, ultimately prompting intervention from the Airport Aviation Security (AVSEC) crime unit, who escorted him away for questioning.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident and condemned the disruption, describing it as a violation of airport security protocols. FAAN further stated that the artiste\’s conduct delayed boarding procedures and disrupted scheduled operations.
In addition to possible regulatory sanctions, ValueJet is reportedly considering legal action against the singer. The airline has also suspended two pilots pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
If enforced, a no-fly listing by the NCAA could significantly impact Kwam 1’s career, especially given his frequent domestic and international travel for performances.
As of the time of filing this report, Kwam 1 has not issued a public statement addressing the new developments.
