Nollywood actress Evan Okoro has publicly raised concerns for her safety, alleging that her estranged husband, Chibuzo Erikife, has made threatening remarks and exhibited disturbing behavior following the breakdown of their marriage.
In a tearful video posted on social media, Okoro claimed that Erikife told her, “If you leave me, I will buy you,” a statement she interpreted as a direct threat to her life. She revealed that a formal petition has already been submitted to the police regarding the matter.
“This marriage is not working. The shoe I took home is not my size,” Okoro said, emphasizing that her bride price was never paid and that her family recently requested Erikife\’s family to fulfill the traditional marital rites.
The actress accused her estranged husband of becoming increasingly controlling and aggressive, particularly about her finances. She recounted a recent incident after a business trip to Lagos, where she earned a modest fee for an advert, much lower than her usual endorsement rate.
“He wanted the money, and when I refused, he got angry,” she alleged. “He didn’t even call to check on me after the trip. It’s been over two weeks now.”
Okoro further claimed that Erikife had withdrawn emotionally and physically from the marriage, showing no intimacy or support, despite her efforts to seek help from his family.
“He’s jealous of my achievements,” she continued, referencing recent speculation following her online post celebrating a house she built. “People are saying he wants to kidnap me because I posted the house. I built that house myself. I started it before he came into my life.”
The actress shared that she has had troubling dreams and has heard rumors of potential harm being planned against her, heightening her fears for her life.
“I’m not asking anyone for money. I just want to finish my house and focus on my life,” she said. “If I keep living like this, I will go down six feet.”
Okoro concluded by calling on the public to hold her husband accountable should anything happen to her, stressing that she has exhausted all efforts to save the marriage but now prioritizes her safety.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the petition or the allegations.
