Nigerian rap star Odumodublvck has opened up about the spontaneous and unexpected journey that led to his hit collaboration Grooving with Afrobeats icon Davido and Afrobeat legend Seun Kuti.

In a recently surfaced interview on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Dog Eat Dog crooner revealed that the collaboration came to life after Davido persistently reached out to him across different countries, insisting they record something together.

According to Odumodublvck, Davido, who fondly calls him “D-Rice,” a nickname inspired by his breakout single Declan Rice, was the driving force behind the song. “Davido called me when he was in London and said, ‘We go record today o,’” Odumodublvck recalled with a laugh. “He called me again when he was in Ghana. Even with all his travels, he kept saying, ‘D-Rice, where you dey?’ I told him, ‘I dey Lagos,’ and he said, ‘Come today, come today!’ That’s how we did Grooving, an amazing record.”

The song eventually took shape as a vibrant fusion of hip-hop, Afrobeats, and Afrobeat influences, featuring a surprise contribution from Seun Kuti, the son of the legendary Fela Kuti. For Odumodublvck, having Seun on the record felt like a full-circle moment. “I used to listen to Fela growing up,” he said. “So imagine now having his son on my project, that’s legendary.”

Grooving appears on Odumodublvck’s acclaimed 2025 album Industry Machine, a project celebrated for its bold storytelling, sharp lyricism, and deep collaborations that bridge generations of African sound.

The rapper’s revelation about the track’s creation highlights the mix of spontaneity and persistence that fuels many of his musical connections, proof that some of the best songs are born from raw energy and genuine chemistry rather than long planning.
