Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared an emotional tribute to mark two years since a devastating fire gutted his Lekki residence.
In a heartfelt video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, AY reflected on the traumatic experience while showcasing a montage of the burnt structure alongside visuals of the now fully rebuilt mansion. The video featured images of the home’s grand interior, highlighting marble floors, elegant staircases, and a fusion of modern and Afrocentric design.
“Two years ago today, everything went up in flames: my home, my peace, my comfort zone. And that was just the beginning,” AY narrated in the video’s voiceover. “I have seen betrayal, lies, and storms that tried to silence everything I built. But I am still here, not because I am lucky, but because God is faithful.”
He continued, “Grave is louder than gossip, and purpose doesn’t burn in fire. They still plot, talk, but while they walk in darkness, I walk in light. Every setback was a setup for something greater. Thank You God for beauty after ashes.”
The original fire incident, which occurred in 2023, completely destroyed the property and its contents, temporarily displacing AY and his family. The tragedy drew widespread sympathy and support from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers across the entertainment industry.
The unveiling of the reconstructed home has since attracted waves of congratulatory messages on social media, with many commending AY’s resilience and spirit of gratitude in the face of adversity.
