Fuji legend Adewale Ayuba has called on leading Afrobeats stars, including Adekunle Gold and Tiwa Savage, to join him in taking Fuji music to the global stage.

Speaking during a recent conversation with Adekunle Gold on Apple Music Radio, the veteran artist expressed his vision of elevating Fuji beyond Nigeria’s borders through collaboration and modern reinvention.

“I want to collaborate with the likes of you, Tiwa Savage, everybody, to make Fuji music popular,” Ayuba said passionately. “Fuji is ours, and we must embrace it.”

Known as the “Bonsue Fuji King,” Ayuba emphasized that Fuji music, one of Nigeria’s most enduring indigenous genres, has the potential to reach global audiences just like reggae and afrobeat did. He compared his dream to what Bob Marley achieved for reggae, stating that with the right partnerships and creativity, Fuji could stand proudly on international platforms.

The interview also marked a symbolic “full circle” moment for Adekunle Gold, who has long incorporated Fuji influences into his music. His recent album Fuji and its hit track Many People both feature strong Fuji rhythms, alongside a verse and cameo from Ayuba himself, bridging generations in sound and storytelling.

Adekunle Gold described the moment as deeply meaningful, recalling how Ayuba’s voice was a constant presence during his childhood: “I grew up hearing Ayuba’s songs everywhere, on the streets, in parties, on the radio. To now talk about the future of Fuji with him feels surreal.”

Adewale Ayuba, in turn, commended Adekunle Gold for his modern approach to the genre, describing Fuji as “complete music, filled with love, dance, and energy.” He encouraged more contemporary Nigerian artists to explore Fuji’s roots and help position it as the next major sound from Africa to capture the world’s attention.
