Ekiti State approves over N18.5b for road, power, water, other projects

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved capital projects worth more than ₦18.5 billion to boost infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and improve living standards across the state.

The approvals were granted during a virtual council meeting held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 according to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, July 31 by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun.

A major part of the funding, ₦10.115 billion, was earmarked for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ita Ido-Ido Ile-Okemesi-Ikoro Road, spanning 17.4 kilometers. The commissioner said the road project will improve transportation, stimulate economic activity, and enhance security in the area.

Another ₦1.1 billion was approved for constructing an access road to the new multipurpose building at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti. This road is expected to improve access and reflect the government’s commitment to developing a reliable and modern road network.

The council also awarded a ₦1.83 billion contract to Rutnael Project Limited for the remodelling of the Adekunle Fajuyi Memorial Park. The project aims to transform the park into an international-standard tourism destination and honor the legacy of the late military hero and former Military Governor of Western Region, Lt. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi.

In the area of water supply and sanitation, ₦1.5 billion was approved for the construction of the Odo Oja Water Scheme in Ikere Ekiti. The project, awarded to Jadfem Nigeria Limited, is under the World Bank-supported SURWASH (Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Programme, and is scheduled for completion within 10 months.

For cultural development, the council approved ₦2.18 billion for the extension, acquisition, and remodelling of the Arts and Cultural Centre at Waterworks Area in Ado Ekiti. The facility is envisioned to promote job creation and provide creative opportunities for the youth.

The council also approved ₦515.9 million for the reconstruction of a collapsed culvert at Adekaitan Filling Station, Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti. According to the commissioner, this intervention is targeted at improving access to vital services and easing the movement of people and goods.

Additional approvals included ₦998.2 million for various electricity projects, such as solar-powered street lighting, transformers, power network rehabilitation, and modular solar irrigation systems in multiple communities. These efforts are intended to expand electricity access, stimulate local economies, and strengthen community security.

Olatunbosun emphasized that all the projects reflect the Biodun Oyebanji administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, and people-centered governance.
