Reforms and Tinubu’s performance driving mass defections to APC – Committee chairman Tenebe

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Membership Register Revalidation Committee, Jarret Tenebe, has credited ongoing party reforms and President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office as the major reasons members of opposition parties are defecting to the ruling APC.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Ado Ekiti, Tenebe noted that the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusive membership, and the fair treatment of newcomers had contributed to the recent surge in defections from rival parties.

He addressed journalists in the Ekiti State capital amid the ongoing revalidation of the APC membership register ahead of the 2026 governorship primaries, encouraging all party members to verify their financial standing at their respective wards.

“This revalidation exercise is critical to ensure that all committed members are accurately captured in our register to vote and be voted for,” Tenebe said. “This shows that APC is organized and up to date. Other parties are not even carrying out exercises like this, and before primaries begin, we will start seeing the cracks in those camps.”

Tenebe, who also serves as the APC Chairman in Edo State, maintained that new members were treated equally within the party and were quickly integrated into its structure.

“People are joining APC because of the way the party is being reformed and, more importantly, the impressive performance of our president. His work is speaking for us. That’s why you see people coming into the APC in droves. No one is leaving.”

He expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s support base in Ekiti State would expand, noting that both the president and Governor Biodun Oyebanji would receive increased votes in the 2027 and 2026 elections, respectively.

Tenebe also dismissed the idea that rival parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) posed a threat in the forthcoming polls. He argued that the opposition, particularly the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was already grappling with internal divisions that would likely weaken their electoral chances.

“With the problems in the PDP and the Labour Party, and the internal splits happening in their coalition, we can predict the number of votes the APC will secure. It will certainly be more. There’s no crack in our wall and no fear moving forward,” he declared.
