Sanwo-Olu unveils new roads in Badagry, reaffirms commitment to grassroots infrastructure

Lagos State Governor, Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s dedication to grassroots development with the commissioning of newly completed road projects in Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area.

Speaking during the official inauguration on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the governor commended residents for their support and cooperation throughout the construction process, noting their patience and resilience amid temporary disruptions.

“Beyond the electoral process, we commend the continuous understanding, patience, and cooperation shown by the people of Badagry throughout the entire construction period of these road projects,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Your willingness to accommodate the challenges that often accompany such large-scale infrastructure works has been instrumental in the successful and timely delivery of these transformative road projects.”

The newly commissioned roads, Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road and Hospital Road, are part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance interconnectivity, facilitate trade, and promote tourism within underserved communities.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the road projects were strategically designed to improve access to key historical and commercial landmarks, including the General Hospital, Agiya Tree Monument, and the Slave Trade Relic/Town Hall. He noted that Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road now offers an alternative route to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, linking Badagry Roundabout to Limca/Ibereko, while Hospital Road supports water transportation via Badagry Marina to Lagos Mainland, Island, and even West African coastal towns.

“As we promised, we are using improved road infrastructure to enhance trade and commerce, stimulate the tourism sector, and, most importantly, open up remote areas,” he said. “We are convinced that infrastructural development remains the foundation for a vibrant tourism sector.”

Reaffirming his administration\’s inclusive development agenda, Sanwo-Olu added, “Whether through roads, drainage systems, or other essential amenities, we are committed to reaching every nook and cranny of the state. True and sustainable development can only be realised when it touches the lives of all citizens.”

He concluded by encouraging residents to take ownership of the new infrastructure and ensure its longevity.

“I urge all community leaders, the people of Badagry, and all road users to guard jealously the infrastructure being handed over today, ensuring its preservation for generations to come,” the governor stated.
