Tim Godfrey speaks out following online backlash

Tim Godfrey Infinity

Gospel artist Tim Godfrey has addressed the growing controversy surrounding his recent collaboration with Nigerian singer Oxlade on the new single Infinity.

The song, released earlier this week, sparked debate among fans who questioned why a gospel minister would feature an artist previously linked to a public scandal. Critics argued that the partnership clashed with the values of gospel music and accused Tim Godfrey of blurring the lines between sacred and secular art.

For days, the award-winning singer remained silent as conversations spread across social media. But on Wednesday, Tim finally broke his silence with a heartfelt open letter titled “To the Labeled.” In the emotional piece, he addressed those who have faced judgment, rejection, or exclusion because of how they look or live.

“I know what it feels like to be misunderstood,” he wrote. “I’ve been called worldly, rebellious, and unspiritual. But Jesus never rejected anyone. He sat with the broken, touched the untouchable, and called the forgotten family.”

Tim’s message struck a chord with many who feel alienated by rigid religious expectations. He reminded his followers that faith isn’t about fitting an image, writing, “You may have tattoos or dreads that make them stare, but neither did Jesus fit the religious image.”

In the same letter, the singer announced his upcoming project titled No Label, set for release on October 31, 2025. Describing it as more than just an album, Tim said the project represents a movement dedicated to people who have been “boxed, branded, or broken.”

He explained that No Label is about freedom, love, and acceptance, a challenge to the idea that spirituality must conform to appearance or reputation. “Jesus didn’t come for the perfect,” he concluded. “He came for the real.”

Since the letter’s release, fans have flooded Tim’s social media pages with messages of support, praising him for his honesty and for bringing a message of grace and inclusion to gospel music.
