Woman arrested for killing, dismemberment, and sale of pregnant Nurse’s body parts in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the brutal murder and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.

The arrest, carried out on July 25, 2025, was made possible through the assistance of vigilant residents of Umueri village in the Ogbunike community. Days earlier, mutilated remains of the victim were discovered dumped in a soakaway pit, sparking public outrage and a wave of fear across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, and shared on Facebook on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the suspect confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently on the run.

Nwafor admitted that she was called in by Elobisi after the crime had been committed to help clean the blood from the crime scene. She further revealed that the body parts of the victim were sold to native doctors for ritualistic purposes.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim, a trained nurse, was lured to the suspect’s residence under the pretense of offering medical treatment,” Ikenga said.

Following her confession, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided the shrine of a native doctor identified as Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, on the morning of July 29. During the operation, suspected human body parts were recovered, sealed in nylon bags.

The Anambra State Police Command has now launched a full-scale manhunt for Elobisi and other suspected collaborators and buyers of the human parts.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the crime, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He assured the public that the investigation is in full swing and urged anyone with useful information to come forward, adding that all informants will be protected.
