The Adamawa State Police Command has launched investigations into two separate incidents of culpable homicide stemming from domestic violence in Madagali and Gombi local government areas, respectively.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the first incident occurred in the Pallam District of Madagali, where a family altercation between two co-wives escalated into fatal violence.
According to preliminary findings, a heated argument broke out between Rhoda Anthony, 55, and Victoria Anthony, 36, both married to one Anthony Pallam. During the dispute, Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, allegedly struck his stepmother, Rhoda, on the head with a piece of wood, causing her to collapse. She was rushed to Cottage Hospital, Madagali, but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Both the teenage suspect and his mother, Victoria, have been taken into protective custody as investigations continue.
In a separate but similarly tragic case in Fotta District, Gombi Local Government Area, the Command reported that a man, Idi Buba, fatally stabbed his biological father, Buba Jelli, during a domestic disagreement. The suspect reportedly attacked his father with a knife, stabbing him in the neck and back.
The victim was taken to the Primary Health Care Center in Fotta but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention. Police officers apprehended the suspect at the scene and recovered the knife, which is being treated as evidence.
Reacting to the disturbing incidents, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, strongly condemned the acts, particularly as they involve close family members. He urged residents of Adamawa to exercise restraint and adopt peaceful approaches in resolving personal and domestic conflicts.
“The law will take its full course. Upon the conclusion of our investigations, the suspects will be charged to court,” the CP assured.
