Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has lifted the suspension of 81 government officials who were previously sanctioned for failing to attend a key state function.
The decision was made public on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.
According to the directive, all affected officials are to resume their official duties with immediate effect. The statement read: “The affected commissioners, Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), Special Assistants (SAs), and Permanent Secretaries are to resume official duties immediately.”
The mass suspension, which was initially announced on July 28, had affected a wide range of top government functionaries including the Attorney General, 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 SSAs, and 24 SAs.
During the suspension period, the officials were barred from signing any official documents and were denied access to their salaries.
While the reason for the original disciplinary action was absenteeism at a crucial state function, the governor’s move to reinstate the officials signals a resolution of the issue, though no further explanation was given in the statement.
