The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has signed an amended Memorandum of Understanding valued at $12,347,071.44 with its implementing partner, Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), to fast-track agricultural mechanisation and bolster food security across the state.
According to a statement by the KSADP Communication Specialist, Ameen Yassar, the renewed agreement focuses on the procurement and deployment of a wide range of agricultural machinery including tractors, combine harvesters, planters, transplanters, boom sprayers, and other modern farming equipment for land preparation, planting, and harvesting.
KSADP State Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, noted that the revised MoU also includes the supply of solar-powered water pumps, rice milling machines, onion storage technologies, and tools aimed at reducing post-harvest losses.
“This collaboration is a critical step in transitioning Kano’s agriculture from traditional, crude tools to a modern, mechanised system that supports smallholder farmers through improved precision and increased productivity,” Muhammad stated.
The project, funded by the Islamic Development Bank, the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, and the Kano State Government, leverages the expertise of SAA to implement sustainable development goals aligned with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, the Kano State Development Plan, and the Islamic Development Bank’s strategic roadmap.
Speaking during the agreement signing, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, described the initiative as a transformational leap for the state\’s agricultural sector, especially in attracting youth participation.
SAA Nigeria Country Director, Dr. Godwin Atser, hailed the partnership as a “milestone” and a testament to the success of the five-year collaboration between the organisation and KSADP in modernising agriculture in northern Nigeria.
