The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has secured the conviction of Mr. Wahab Olabanji, a former Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, for his role in a recruitment fraud scheme.
Olabanji, a Grade Level 14 officer prior to his prosecution, was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining money from unsuspecting job seekers under the false promise of securing them employment with the Hospital Management Board and the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in Ibadan, the state capital, the Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan (Rtd.), disclosed that the defendant was convicted on a 30-count charge, including official corruption, obtaining money under false pretense, and unlawful conversion of funds.
According to Esan, the conviction followed a 17-month-long legal process, resulting in the court\’s judgment delivered on Friday, August 1, 2025. The court sentenced Olabanji to six months\’ imprisonment on each of the 30 counts, with an option of a ₦50,000 fine per count.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered the convict to refund all monies fraudulently collected from his victims within a three-month period.
Justice Esan reiterated OYACA’s firm stance on eradicating corruption from the state’s public service, emphasizing that the agency remains committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in all government institutions.
