INEC to commence Continuous Voter Registration in 811 centres nationwide

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on August 18, 2025, and will be conducted across 811 centres in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, following the commission’s regular meeting held in Abuja.

According to Olumekun, the CVR exercise will commence with online pre-registration on August 18, while in-person registration at designated centres will begin a week later on August 25. Both processes will run concurrently until August 30, 2026.

The registration will take place at the commission’s 774 Local Government Area offices, 36 State offices, and the FCT office, operating weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding national public holidays.

To facilitate the process, INEC will launch a CVR Live Locator tool on August 17, a day before the exercise begins. The locator, accessible at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator, will help citizens find their nearest registration centre with ease.

Additionally, the commission has uploaded a 38-page document to its official website and online platforms, detailing the addresses of all 811 registration centres. Each state will also have dedicated help desk telephone lines for voter enquiries and clarifications.

Olumekun stated that the procedures for both online and in-person registration remain unchanged from the last CVR exercise held in 2022. INEC will also release further guidance and instructional video materials to assist prospective registrants in the coming days.

On the issue of political party registration, the commissioner revealed that eight new associations have submitted letters of intent to register as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 151 as of July 23, 2025.

Details of these new requests, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership structures, have been published on INEC’s website for public awareness.

Olumekun further stated that the commission has launched a portal for processing party registration applications and is currently shortlisting associations that meet the eligibility criteria to advance to the next stage.

More updates regarding political party registration will be released after the 16 bye-elections scheduled to hold across 12 states on Saturday, August 16.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and citizen engagement throughout all stages of the electoral process.
